Position: OF Stats: .262 BA, 29 HR, 75 RBI, .856 OPS, 100 G Contract status: Owed remainder of $13 million salary, then a free agent
Why he fits: Though Bruce would be an expensive rental, money theoretically wouldn’t be a problem for the Yankees, though FanRag’s Jon Heyman reported that owner Hal Stienbrenner has frozen the 2017 payroll after the trade deadline. Bruce brings a powerful left-handed bat that would fit well at DH for the Yankees, especially if Matt Holliday doesn’t turn it around. The Mets are going to start playing him more at first base, too, since Lucas Duda’s gone. That would work for the Yankees, who are relying on a similarly inexperienced Chase Headley there.

Rangers’ Mike Napoli
Position: 1B Stats: .202 BA, 22 HR, 48 RBI, .726 OPS, 92 G Contract status: Owed remainder of $11 million salary, $2.5 million buyout for 2018
Why he fits: Napoli owns an .839 OPS vs. left-handers this season and could create a solid lefty-righty platoon with Headley. He’s also got a reputation as a worker and a great clubhouse guy. Also, doesn’t it feel like Napoli has killed the Yankees in recent years? He’d be another DH candidate.

A’s Yonder Alonso
Position: 1B Stats: .269 BA, 22 HR, 49 RBI, .900 OPS, 98 G Contract status: Owed remainder of $4 million salary, then a free agent
Why he fits: The Yankees were heavily connected to Alsonso while they were talking to the A’s about Sonny Gray before the trade deadline. Actually, it was somewhat surprising the Yankees didn’t end up with him. Though, maybe he’s coming back down to earth. Since July 1, Alonso has hit just .239 with five homers in 28 games.

A’s Jed Lowrie
Position: UTL Stats: .270 BA, 10 HR, 36 RBI, .786 OPS, 104 G Contract status: Owed remainder of $6 million salary. Has a $6 million team option for 2018 with a $1 million buyout.
Why he fits: A regular second baseman, Lowrie can play shortstop or third base in a pinch, and he’s a competent hitter on a team selling parts.
